Twenty-seven Jacksonville restaurants and bars on this page have closed. We found them while building this site, because you cannot publish a city guide without checking whether the places in it are open.
Most guides quietly drop a closed restaurant and move on. We publish the closure instead. Planning an evening around a place you have been looking forward to, and finding a dark window, is a specific kind of disappointment, and it is almost always because nobody updated a page.
The one everybody should know about
Ragtime Tavern Seafood & Grille anchored Beaches Town Center in Atlantic Beach from 1983 and brewed some of the first craft beer in this city. It closed permanently on 27 January 2025.
Its website is still live today, and it still says the dine-in room is open and ready to welcome you back. It publishes a full Monday-to-Sunday hours block and offers reservations and delivery. That is twenty months after the doors shut. Nothing about that page is spam; it is simply nobody's job to take it down, and so it keeps telling people a closed restaurant is open. It is the clearest thing on this whole site about why we bother.
Two more do a softer version of the same thing. 1904 Music Hall downtown closed in August 2023 and its site still carries an Upcoming Shows menu. Intuition Ale Works closed on 24 April 2026 and its site still sits behind an age gate with no closure notice. Only King Maker Brewing handled it honestly: its site retitled itself with the years it was open, 2020 to 2026.
The long-running ones
Jenkins Quality Barbecue closed on 30 September 2025 after 68 years. It was one of the oldest Black family-owned restaurants in Jacksonville, known for a mustard-based hot sauce, and it ran three counters. A national travel guide's Jacksonville chef feature still recommends it.
Bistro AIX in San Marco closed on 28 September 2024 after 25 years. Cafe San Marco and Bar San Marco opened in the same building and kept the room's architecture.
Mossfire Grill spent 27 years in the same Margaret Street building in Five Points before closing in October 2025. Tripadvisor and a rooftop-restaurants listicle still send people there.
Beachside Seafood in Jacksonville Beach, with the fish market downstairs and the dining room above it, ends restaurant service in October 2026 after more than three decades in a building that dates to 1954.
Five Points and Riverside took the worst of it
Black Sheep, the rooftop new American room over the Riverside skyline, closed in May 2024 after eleven years. Two separate 2026 "best of Jacksonville" guides still list it as open.
Alewife, the bottle shop and tasting room, closed in October 2024 after ten years. Rain Dogs, the bar and small music room named after the Tom Waits record, closed on 31 December 2024 after almost twelve years and took one of the few small stages for local bands with it.
King Maker Brewing closed on 4 April 2026, Prospect Five Points on 28 June 2026, Clarke Bros Subs on 20 June 2026, and Al's Pizza Riverside on 26 August 2026 after 23 years.
Downtown and Brooklyn
Downtown lost ten rooms across 2025 alone. Burrito Gallery Brooklyn, the last of four, closed on 22 June 2025 and ended a twenty-year run for a taqueria that started here. Bold City Brewery's downtown tavern on Bay Street closed on 27 June 2026, though the original Rosselle Street brewery is still open and still worth the trip.
Also gone: Happy Grilled Cheese (August 2025), Olio Market and its duck grilled cheese (March 2022), Lily's Asian-American Food after nine months, Ground Level in the Bank of America Tower lobby, The Mini Market, and the three connected Bread & Board rooms on the VyStar campus.
Breweries
Intuition Ale Works closed on 24 April 2026 after sixteen years, taking its rooftop taproom, kitchen and music hall by the stadium with it. Hyperion Brewing, which helped anchor Springfield's revival, closed on 31 March 2024.
Moved, not closed
Mixed Fillings Pie Shop left Five Points for Adams Street downtown in March 2025. Breezy Jazz House moved from San Marco to East Bay Street. Bold City Brewery is on Rosselle Street, not Bay Street.
Where the good ones went
Several of these rooms are still worth walking into under another name. Bistro AIX became Cafe San Marco and Bar San Marco. Moxie Kitchen + Cocktails became Prati Italia in 2020, same building, same chef and team, although one national guide still recommends Moxie by name. Sun-Ray Cinema in Five Points is now FIVE, a live music room. Freebird Live is Surfer the Bar. Justice Tavern is Keane's Irish Pub. 1904 Music Hall's shows moved to its sister venue Underbelly on East Bay Street. Burrito Gallery's original downtown space is Dorothy's.

Two former Jacksonville restaurant addresses now serve gambling sites: the old Burrito Gallery domain runs an Indonesian lottery page, and Bistro AIX's own former domain, which directories still print as its website, redirects to a Thai slots site. A third, clarkebros.com, belongs to a scaffolding firm in Bristol, England and has never had anything to do with Clarke Bros Subs.
What is not on this page
Several Jacksonville venues look closed and are deliberately absent, because the only evidence was a Yelp banner. That is not our standard, and it matters most for Pete's Bar in Neptune Beach, the first bar to open legally in Duval County after Prohibition. One listing for it is flagged closed, a duplicate listing still shows daily hours, and one local blog called it a temporary closing. A closure there would be front-page news in this town, so until a named outlet or the bar itself says so, we will not say it. It is marked as needing verification on its own page rather than being claimed either way.
