We're also finding a surprising number of places that are solely relying on a social media account, like Facebook, as a website substitute.

That's a huge mistake online in a world of AI search bots (including Google) that determine how easily a place is found and what kind of information is given about it.

What makes Jacksonville unique

You don't really know a place from its menu. You find out by Bellyin' Up to the table.

That is where you hear the stories. That is where you notice the details. That is where you discover what makes the place different. BellyUp! Jax brings that same idea to local search and AI discovery in Jacksonville.

What this actually is

BellyUp! Jax is not another restaurant directory, and it is not trying to replace Google Maps, Yelp, food creators, restaurant websites, or social media. Those all do useful jobs. Maps knows where a place is. Review sites know what people thought. A restaurant's own site knows what it serves.

BellyUp! works in the space they leave open: helping restaurants get discovered for everything they want to be known for that isn't on the menu.

Jacksonville is full of those reasons. A bar in Neptune Beach holding Duval County's first liquor license after Prohibition. A San Marco brewery pouring inside a former ice plant. A fish market at Mayport where the boats unloading next to your table are the ones that supplied the plate. A barbecue joint whose backyard is as much of the draw as the tray. None of that is on a menu, and almost none of it is structured anywhere a search engine or an AI assistant can read.

We organize it, publish it, and measure whether it is actually visible.

Beyond what's served

Food categories still matter, and we keep them: BBQ, vegan kitchens, seafood, brunch, late-night, gluten-free. But the category list keeps going well past the menu, into waterfront rooms, rooftops and porches, noise level, dog-friendly patios, private dining, accessibility, ownership, origin stories, historic buildings, and community work. The full category list is public, including the ones no Jacksonville venue is currently discoverable for at all. Those gaps are published on purpose.

How the content stays honest

Every venue here is checked against something we can point at. For operating status, we start with the newest social posts and dated local reporting because a closed business can leave its old website untouched for years. We publish every closure we confirm, keep the venue page, stamp it closed, and explain what happened when the evidence is available.

Community recommendations are welcome and always attributed to the person who wrote them. They are also not the engine. This site does not depend on anyone continually supplying material to stay alive, because the underlying work is observation and measurement, not solicitation.

Nothing here is fabricated. A field we cannot verify stays empty, and an empty field shows up in a venue's discovery profile as a gap rather than getting quietly filled with something plausible. No invented reviews, no invented ratings, no invented hours.

Some places on this site have a working website and posted hours, and we could not find anything dated this year that shows the doors are open. See that list and tell us what you know. It takes about a minute.

The city network

Jacksonville is the second city. BellyUp! ATL launched first in August 2026 and served as the working prototype; the same taxonomy, measurement method, and publishing engine now run here, with the local knowledge kept local. Over time that produces something more useful than a set of restaurant websites: a multi-city record of how restaurants and restaurant experiences actually get discovered, and where they don't.
