San Marco Food Guide

Smashburgers, a backyard barbecue, a brewery in a former ice plant, and a music club that has outlasted most of the block.

San Marco is the easiest part of Jacksonville to eat your way through on foot, and four rooms on Hendricks and Kings cover most of what you would want from a night there: a burger, a barbecue plate, a beer, and a band.

Hard Pressed started as a food truck and now smashes burgers out of the Hendricks Avenue storefront that used to be Good Dough. A few blocks away, The Bearded Pig is the barbecue answer, and the one where the backyard matters as much as the tray. Worth knowing: plenty of listings still send you to 1224 Kings Ave. They moved four blocks down to 1808 Kings in 2021, and their own site is the only place that reliably says so.

Aardwolf Brewing pours inside a former ice plant, which is the kind of detail a beer list will never tell you and the building makes obvious the moment you walk in. And across from the Balis Community Center, Jack Rabbits has been booking original bands for more than twenty-five years in a 300-capacity room that serves beer and wine and lets everybody in.

None of this is ranked. It is a starting point in one neighborhood, and everything we track in San Marco lives on the neighborhood page.
